Sony PlayStation Portable homebrew developer Mathieulh recently released a statement regarding pretty much the state of Custom Firmware for the PSP, as well as what lies ahead. In it, he talked about the release of the latest CFW, 3.93, and what they have planned in case the official 4.0 firmware comes along. Let's take a look, shall we? So, what did Mathieulh say? Pretty much that the M33 team did not have any hand in making the latest CFW (that is, 3.93), and that he finds the idea to implement access to recovery directly via the VSH a pretty cool one. So, kudos to the unnamed developer! Well, if Team M33 didn't make CFW 3.93, then when are they going to bust out one of theirs? Mathieulh says that the way things look, the current custom firmware will be all that we need until 4.0 rolls along - so until that fateful firmware comes, there is no scheduled release from Team M33. A reason for this is because Sony hasn't been quite generous with the new stuff coming from every firmware, which makes the effort of making a new custom one a bit pointless. His statement (as translated in the QJ.Net PSP Forums by transce08): Concerning M33, no release is actually expected before the release of 4.00 (so one must be patient) and for diverse reasons, the foremost being of course the lack of any new features by Sony in the new firmware updates That certainly explains it, then. If you're already equipped with the latest CFW, then you're all set. Here's hoping for more great things from Mathieulh and Team M33. Updates as we get them since 3.90 (at least from my point of view).

After doing work on the Custom Firmware Extender application, homebrew developer Cpasjuste is now catering to all music-loving PlayStation Portable gamers. If your Sony PSP is currently running on the 3.90 M33 custom firmware, you can now play music while playing a game thanks to coder Cpasjuste's port of the Music prx plugin. Previously for the 3.71 M33 firmware, the Music prx plug-in lets you play atrac3 and mp3 music files while you are accessing the VSH menu, playing a UMD game, or running homebrews (except if the homebrew uses ME). Coder Cpasjuste wants us to take note that this Music prx plugin port "has been tested on a 3.90 M33-3 PSP Slim - without the fatmsmod patch applied." So keep that in mind while using this homebrew plugin. For step-by-step instructions on how to install the Music prx plugin, refer to the readme which is included inside the homebrew file. As the readers may recall, Sony released a new cradle accessory for the PSP Slim just a few days ago for the territories in Japan. Now, if you're among the guys planning to import one for your own use, you'll probably want to see how it looks, which brings us to our current topic.

We've managed to pick up several shots of the Slim cradle, along with some of the other accessories built to go with it. Of special note is the cradle's remote control, which allows you to access the PSP's XMB wirelessly.




That, coupled with the AV Out cable, will turn your handheld into a veritable multimedia system. Another subtle feature we note is that the cradle allows you to open the PSP's UMD port. Those who bought their films in this proprietary format should find this function handy. As a recap, the Cradle costs 4,800 Yen (US$ 46).

3.93 CFW UPDATES :-

* Uses the 3.93 kernel

* Implented all the original custom firmware features.

* Ability to use the normal recovery inside the XMB by pressing the HOME button:
o When in the recovery, the system is suspended, and you can change all options directly.

o All options work immediatly, there is no need to reboot (even the Slim's USB charging option)

o Ability to make a Pandora battery from the recovery, read and restore the EEPROM, etc. Providing that the motherboard supports it.

* Ability to hide the MAC adress in System Information, if you do so, the MAC will show visually as all 0's.

* Ability to save the savegames in normal format, rather then encrypted (only functions in March33 and Sony NP9960 mode).

* The native 3.93 pops isn't as good as the previous pops, therefor I hope the popsloader will get updated to support 3.93.
